Easy Sautéed Garlic Mushrooms: Flavorful & Ready in 10 Minutes

Hey there! If you’re a fan of rich, savory flavors with a hint of garlic, you’re in for a treat. Sautéed garlic mushrooms are one of those versatile side dishes that pair perfectly with almost anything. Whether you’re serving them with a steak, tossing them into pasta, or simply enjoying them on their own, these mushrooms are a flavor-packed delight! Let’s dive into this simple yet mouthwatering recipe.

Method

Sautéing the Onions

To start, grab a large skillet and place it over medium heat. Add the butter and oil to the skillet. As they begin to melt and combine, you’ll notice a lovely aroma forming. Once the mixture is fully melted and well-blended, it’s time to add the onions. Gently place the sliced onions into the skillet. Cook the onions for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. The key here is to keep the onions moving to ensure they don’t stick to the pan or burn. You’re looking for the onions to become soft and slightly translucent   that’s when they’re ready for the next step.

Adding the Mushrooms

Once the onions are cooked to perfection, it’s time to introduce the mushrooms. Add the quartered baby Bella mushrooms to the skillet, making sure they are evenly distributed. Now, here’s a crucial tip   don’t overcrowd the pan. If the mushrooms are too close together, they will release moisture and steam instead of getting that delightful sautéed texture. Allow the mushrooms to cook for about 10 minutes. During this time, you’ll notice that the mushrooms start to release their natural moisture. Keep stirring occasionally to help them cook evenly. Your goal here is to let most of that water evaporate, leaving the mushrooms tender and slightly browned.

Incorporating Garlic and Seasoning

With the mushrooms cooked down and the moisture mostly gone, it’s time to add the star ingredients   garlic and seasoning. Increase the heat to high and add the pressed garlic, Kosher salt, garlic salt, and black pepper. The reason for increasing the heat is to give the mushrooms a nice, slightly crispy edge while infusing the dish with bold garlic flavors. Stir the mixture constantly for about 3 to 4 minutes. This helps the garlic to cook without burning and ensures that the seasonings are evenly distributed throughout the dish. Taste the mushrooms at this point and adjust the seasoning if necessary.

Serving and Storing

Once everything is perfectly sautéed and seasoned, remove the skillet from the heat. You can serve the mushrooms right away while they’re hot and fragrant. If you’re planning to save them for later, allow the mushrooms to cool slightly before transferring them to an airtight container. Store them in the refrigerator, and when you’re ready to enjoy, simply reheat them in a skillet or microwave. They hold up well and taste just as delicious the next day!

Ingredients

  • 24 oz baby Bella mushrooms, quartered

  • 1 medium onion, sliced

  • 6 garlic cloves, pressed

  • 1/2 tsp Kosher salt

  • 1/2 tsp garlic salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 3 Tbsp butter

  • 3 Tbsp oil

Directions

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add butter and oil. Once melted, add the sliced onions. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring often to prevent burning.
  • Add the quartered mushrooms to the skillet. Cook for 10 minutes, or until most of the water released from the mushrooms has evaporated. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  • Add the pressed garlic, Kosher salt, garlic salt, and black pepper. Increase the heat to high and sauté for another 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly to blend the flavors. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  • Serve immediately or refrigerate for later. These mushrooms taste amazing when reheated!

Notes

  • Don’t overcrowd the pan! If your mushrooms are too crowded, they will steam instead of sauté, which makes them soggy.
  • Keep an eye on the onions in the first step. They can burn easily if the heat is too high.
  • Stir frequently when sautéing garlic to avoid bitterness from burning.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve alongside grilled steak or roasted chicken for a hearty meal.
  • Use as a topping for baked potatoes or a filling for wraps.
  • Toss with pasta or stir into risotto for an umami boost.
  • Pair with scrambled eggs for a flavorful breakfast.

Fun Fact

Did you know that baby Bella mushrooms are actually just young Portobello mushrooms? They have a deep, earthy flavor that intensifies as they cook!

Conclusion

There you have it the perfect sautéed garlic mushrooms! This dish is quick, simple, and absolutely bursting with flavor. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or just starting out, this recipe is sure to become a staple in your kitchen. Enjoy your flavorful, garlicky mushrooms and impress your guests with this delicious dish!
